Welcome to the blog of Eric Louie, freelance news reporter, videographer, bartender, and catering server, among other jobs.

I have long worked for newspapers, starting in the old paperboy tradition at 10 years old selling copies of the Sunday San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner on the street. In high school I started writing for my neighborhood monthly newspaper, the Sunset Beacon, before Philippine News and Youth Outlook! of the Pacific News Service. I also covered cops, courts, schools and local government for more than a decade at daily newspapers The Record in Stockton, Calif. and the Contra Costa Times in the San Francisco East Bay.

After being laid off from the Times in 2011, I have continued to produce news through freelancing, learning some additional skills in video production. I also started working more in the fine dining catering, enjoying the opportunity to be around food and becoming a bartender. Put it together and you have this: a blog with random stories including cooking shows I shoot, edit and appear in. The professional work I do for others will largely remain on their outlets, with occasional mention here. For more on that work go to http://www.linkedin.com/in/ericlouieofsf.

See you around.

Eric Louie
